Fun ways to use Just Ask 1 2 3 cards

My husband and I enjoy playing with the “Just Ask 1, 2, 3” card decks and try to find different ways to use them. Recently, while having friends over for dinner, we slipped a card under each of the placemats unbeknownst to our guests. After dinner, we announced that there was a card/question under their placemat and that they couldn’t look at it until it was their turn. As each person turned over his/her card, read the question and answered it, it created such fun and interesting conversation. Even better, the questions went around the table as different people offered their own answers. Even with good friends that we’ve known for years, we learned something new and interesting about them. We will continue to “surprise” our friends with this wonderful way to spark conversation.  Mary B.

Mark and Ruth-Ellen choose a question each morning to talk about over breakfast.  They also pick a single question to ask on their family zoom calls.  One of their favorite ones was: “What is an unusual place where you have fallen asleep?”

Francesco and Linda love picking a question as a writing prompt, using it for an 8 minute writing exercise. They both chose to write about their moms for the question:  Who is Your Hero/Heroine?

Linda chose a single question from the deck 3 to open up the women’s group monthly meeting. Each person got to share the answer to “Who or what means the world to you?” as a way to get to know a little more about who is important in each person’s life.

Meredith and Steve packed their Just Ask 1 2 3 deck 2 for their trip to Jamaica and had fun sharing questions in their bungalow.

Linda Maree used all three deck questions to make it a fun, but very long car ride with a friend.  They used questions from deck 1 from Florida to S. Carolina and then decks 2 and 3 to make the time enjoyable from N. Carolina to Pennsylvania, their final destination. They loved using Just Ask 1 2 3!

Linda meets with several neighbors twice a week with each one bringing their own lawn chair and sitting at least 6 feet apart outdoors.  Last night they each enjoyed being asked a random question from Just Ask 123 card deck 2 and shared a lot of laughs.

“Rick” who is single, purchased deck 1 Easing In to invite conversation with women he was meeting through an online dating site.

Nancy randomly picks a JA123 card to share by email with her long-term friend Laura. Nancy will answer the question in that email and then when Laura has the time she emails back with her answer. Sometimes they discuss their answers because “we talk almost every day and sometimes it is for self-reflection only.”

“The Just Ask 123 cards have been particularly fun on long car rides. They always make the miles go faster as the questions on the cards cause us to recall nearly forgotten incidents or stimulate our thinking on new topics.  Recently on a long drive back from a day at the beach, we were both feeling tired. Just Ask 123 to the rescue!  We were soon engaged in answering and discussing questions from Deck 3 (Deepening Conversations). One card in particular prompted interesting reminiscences followed by a good discussion, How and when have you been brave? We decided that the stupid stuff we did as teenagers didn’t meet our definition of bravery. In a very short time, we were both alert and safely completed the drive home.”    Bruce and Nancy

A group of 10 neighbors  have been meeting for several months every Weds. and Saturday evenings while social distancing.

“At the last two gatherings, we decided to play Just Ask 1 2 3 to share a little more about each other. The question that was selected from Deck 2 was: What is something unique about your family history?

“Each person could answer that question or ask for a different one. What was normally a quick go around ended up being a fascinating experience in history.

“What a surprise that turned out to be as each person shared their heritage: We learned that Jeanne’s great grandfather had been a slave owner during the Civil War and not only freed them but donated 400 acres of land for them to build a town, Free-Town. Mike’s great grandfather escaped Russia during the Revolution and settled in South Africa. My own French grandmother was the oldest of 21 children!

“It was a fun evening and we learned some interesting things about each other.”   Linda

“My family really had fun using Just Ask questions on our family zoom with 5 of us playing. The card What movie had an impact on you as a young person? got a lot of insightful, funny comments.”   Jeanne
