Students at Alta Vista Elementary School are all smiles about their latest assignments.
The school’s teachers are challenging their students with an important new responsibility: committing acts of kindness.
The “Kindness Starts With Me” program kicked off last month as a way to teach students various ways they can practice daily acts of kindness to others, to themselves and to the environment.
The largely volunteer-run program is led by local author Linda Commito, whose book “Love is the New Currency: Creating a New Measure of Wealth” explores ways people can make positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others.
“I love working with kids,” Commito said. “I have a passion for getting the message of love and kindness out into the world, and I think that message needs to to start with children.”
